Karsten Albert was a German luger who finished 12th at the 1998 Nagano Winter Games and sixth four years later at Lake Placid. Albert started his sports career in the former GDR in 1978 at the age of ten. After German re-unification he was not considered anymore for the national team.
When Albert surprisingly won the German national title in 1992 (his only national title), he returned to the team and was nominated for the 1998 Nagano Games. In 2001, he won a team silver medal at the World Championships. At European Championships, he won an individual silver medal in 1998, and team gold and silver medals in 2000.
Albert later turned to coaching and became Assistant Coach at the Regional Olympic Centre of Thuringia at Oberhof.
