Austro-Canadian ice hockey centre Norm Krumpschmid participated in the 1998 Nagano Winter Olympics, but the Austrian team came 14th and last. Krumpschmid was born in St. Catharines, Ontario, and grew up in Sudbury, also Ontario. He first played AAA hockey with the Sudbury Wolves. After graduating from the local ranks, he pursued a four-year NCAA career with the Ferris State Bulldogs in Michigan.
Krumpschmid was selected by the Vancouver Canucks in the 1990 NHL supplemental draft. He then opted to head overseas to continue his playing days. He gained Austrian citizenship and got to represent Austria in the Olympics and World Championships. In total, he won 17 international caps, scoring two goals.
Krumpschmid played in Austria with EK Zell am See (1992-93), EC Graz (1993-94), VEU Feldkirch (1995-97), and Wiener (Vienna) EV (1997-99) before moving to England playing with Manchester Storm (1999-2000). After his active career, he returned to North America, settling in Fort Myers, Florida working as an insurance agent.
