Douglas Maina was a Kenyan boxer who won several medals at international competitions in the late 1970s. In 1976 Maina was named as part of Kenya’s delegation for the Montréal Olympics where he was drawn against Constantin Gruiescu of Romania in the flyweight tournament. He would not get a chance to fight, however, as Kenya were one of the many African nations that boycotted the Games. Two years later he made up for his disappointment of missing the Olympics when he won bronze in the bantamweight at the 1978 Commonwealth Games in Edmonton. Maina also won bronze at the 1978 All-Africa Games in Algiers, helping Kenya to finish top of the boxing medal table.
