Roy Agland’s first season as a senior boxer was in 1946, and after winning his first 12 bouts, he represented Great Britain against Switzerland at Wembley. His points win over Hans Schneider secured the match for Britain. The following May, southpaw Agland won the ABA bantamweight crown. He was deprived the chance of retaining his title in 1948, after injury prevented him competing in the Welsh Championships. Nevertheless, after other Great Britain appearances, he gained selection for the Olympics, but did not start. He turned professional in 1950 and, between then and 1954, enjoyed a career that saw him win 11 and lose two of his 13 bouts. In the 1960s, Agland ran the Roath Amateur Boxing Club in Cardiff.
