The career of Glaswegian William Norton appears to be very brief. A member of the Scottish Amateur Gymnastic Association, he made his public début at the beginning of 1908, and went on to lose to James Burleigh of Partick in the final of the featherweight division at the Scottish Western District Championships. Five weeks later he was unluckily beaten in the semi-final of the Scottish Championship by J. Young of Partick. A surprise selection for the London Olympics, Norton was, however, a non-starter. Nothing more is known about him.
