Biography

Petty Officer Jimmy Coates was a wing-half or inside-forward and was the last player called up for the Great Britain squad in 1956 but, despite his versatility he never played at the 1956 Melbourne Olympics. He played for the Royal Navy football team immediately after the war and in 1955 he won the first of his three England amateur caps. A strong player he had a lot of stamina and gave 100% for the full 90 minutes.
