El-Sayed El-Attiyah, better known as “Toto”, got his start in football with the youth section of his local Tanta Sports Club. In 1947 he was spotted by Mokhtar El-Tetsh and recruited to play for Al-Ahly beginning in 1949, where he remained through 1959. During that time he won nine Egyptian Premier League titles (every year from the league’s 1949 beginning except 1955 when the season was cancelled) and six Egypt Cups (1949-1953, 1956, and 1958). He also played for the national team and was selected to represent Egypt at the 1952 Helsinki Olympics, although he did not appear in either of the country’s matches at the Games. He returned to Tanta in 1960 and appeared for them on and off through 1974, when he finally retired for good. Afterwards, he worked as a coach in the Gulf region, bookended by stints as a trainer with Tanta SC.
