Biography

Czech-born ice hockey defender Daniel Kunce was a member of the German squad at the 1998 Nagano Winter Olympics that was eliminated in the group stage. Four years later at Salt Lake City the team was beaten by the USA 5-0 in the quarter-finals. In total, he won 115 international caps and scored seven goals.

At club level, Kunce played with HC Olomouc (1989-90), ESV Kaufbeuren (1990-93, and 1994-97), EC Hedos München (1993-94), Nürnberg Ice Tigers (1997-2001), Krefeld Pinguine (2001-08), EV Duisburg (2008), and Frankfurt Lions (2008-10). Kunce had a serious traffic accident with his Mercedes near Olmütz in 2017, when his girlfriend died from her injuries. Kunce’s son Daniel also became an ice hockey professional.
