Biography

Iraqi football goalkeeper Karar Ibrahim was recruited by Al-Mina’a SC’s youth team in 2006 and joined their senior squad in 2009. He stayed with the club until 2017, making 97 appearances, before spending a year with Naft Al-Junoob SC. He then returned to Al-Mina’a for one more season, playing in thirteen games, and was then sent to Al-Talaba SC for the 2019-2020. He was a member of that club when he was found dead in his car in Baghdad in July 2020, allegedly from a heart attack, at the age of only 25.

Internationally, Ibrahim was a member of both the Iraq Under-20 and Under-23 national sides and played in the 2016 Asian Football Confederation U-23 Championship, where Iraq placed third. He was also selected to represent his country at the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics, but did not see any playing time, as Iraq tied all three of its matches in the preliminary round and was eliminated from the tournament, ranking 12th out of 16 nations overall.
