Tom Murray came from a wealthy farming background and began curling at his local Biggar Curling Club at the end of the 19th century. He was one of the most prominent Scottish curlers of the first half of the 20th century and was a three-time winner of the sport’s unofficial world championship event. Murray, who was better known by his initials “T.B.”, threw second stone for Great Britain at the 1924 Olympic Games. He served as president of the Royal Caledonian Curling Club in 1936-37. His brother, Robin, was also one of Scotland’s finest curlers.
