Roelof van Lennep played singles and doubles at the 1908 Olympics. He came from a tennis family, as his brother, Christiaan, Jonkheer van Lennep, was a seven-time Dutch singles champion and played at the 1908 and 1924 Olympics. Another brother, August, was the 1903 Dutch singles champion but died young, and a sister, Madzy, was Dutch doubles champion in 1899-1901.
Roelof’s greatest year was 1905 when he won all three titles at the Dutch Championships. He was also national doubles champion in 1906 and 1910-11, and won the mixed again in 1909. He was a founding member of the Hilversumsche Football Club ‘T Gooi in 1889, first football club in Hilversum. Van Lennep worked as the director of the Tarakan Petroleum and the Kali Tello coffee estate in Jakarta during the 1930s.
