Gora Seal started his aquatic career at the College Square Swimming Club, but eventually moved to the city’s Central Swimming Club. Although his skills were primarily in swimming, he was selected to represent India in the water polo tournament at the 1948 London Olympics. There, his country was eliminated in round one after winning its match against Chile but losing to the upcoming bronze medalists from the Netherlands. Although he was not selected for the 1951 Asian Games squad that took home the gold medal, he was invited to take part in the 1952 Helsinki Olympics. By then, however, he had taken a job with the Calcutta Electric Supply Corporation and declined to attend the Games.
