Nikos Milas’ basketball career began after World War II, and he spent his entire tenure as a player with Panathinaikos B.C. Over the course of his domestic career, he won three Greek League titles in 1950, 1951, and 1954. His biggest international success came at the 1949 EuroBasket, when he took bronze with the Greek team. He also competed at the 1951 EuroBasket and Mediterranean Games, as well as the 1952 Helsinki Olympics. In the latter tournament, his country was eliminated in the qualification round after defeating Israel, but lost twice against Hungary; once in regular play, and once in a playoff for advancement. Milas only appeared in the playoff round against Hungary.
Milas embarked upon a successful coaching career after his retirement from active competition, beginning with Panathinaikos in 1960. Within one year, he had earned them a Greek League title. In 1967 he moved to AEK B.C. and won them domestic titles in 1968 and 1970, as well as the FIBA European Cup Winners’ Cup in the former year. He remained with AEK until 1974, and then returned to Panathinaikos until 1976.
