German alpine skier Max Rauffer was a speed specialist who finished 34th in the downhill event and 22nd in the super G at the 2002 Salt Lake City Winter Olympics. In 2004, he won his only World Cup race at Gröden, in the downhill discipline. He won five national titles, at downhill in 1996, 1999, 2000, 2002, and super G in 1999. Rauffer retired in 2005 and studied engineering management to take over his parents’ carpentry company. He also became a motivational speaker.
