Biography

József Tuza was a canoeist for Csepel SC and Csepeli Vasas between 1942 and 1955. Tuza won his first Hungarian championship title in 1944, at the age of 18, in the C-2 10,000m, which was followed by 15 more until 1953. Between 1946 and 1948, he finished first in the canoe single 1,000m race three times in a row, but he did not make it to the 1948 London Olympics, either individually or in a team boat. His greatest successes were achieved with his clubmate István Bodor, who won three championship titles (1949, 1952, 1953), finishing fifth in the C-2 1000m at the 1952 Helsinki Olympics, and winning a silver medal at the 1954 Macon World Championships, also in C-2.

Tuza competed for the last time in 1955, but he did not leave the affiliation even after his career ended. Together with Sándor Szabó, he then took care of the competition team. He later retired from the sport.
