Biography

Marcel Hitz was a Swiss snowboarder who specialised in the halfpipe discipline. Hitz made his World Cup début in November 1997 in Tignes, France, where he placed 13th. After a few more World Cup starts at events in Europe he then competed at the 2001 World Championships in Italy. His best performance came later the same year, just missing out on a podium with a fourth-place finish at the European Cup event in Kaunertal, Austria. A few months later Hitz competed for Switzerland at the Salt Lake City Olympics, placing 15th overall. Shortly after the Games, however, Hitz was forced to retire from the sport after being diagnosed with bone cancer.
