Biography

Martina Glagow-Beck was a German biathlete who participated in three consecutive Winter Olympics from 2002 at Salt Lake City to 2010 at Vancouver. She won three silver medals at Torino in 2006 in the 10 km pursuit and 15 km individual, as well as with the German relay team. In 2010 she added a bronze medal with the relay. At World Championships she won three gold medals, five silvers and four bronzes.

In total, Glagow-Beck won 24 World Cup races, among them nine with the German relays. She was the overall World Cup and pursuit winner in 2003, the mass start champion in 2006, and the individual champion in 2008. In addition to her 24 wins, Glagow-Beck added 25 second, and 21 third places.

Glagow-Beck was awarded the Silver Bay Leaf, Germany’s highest sports award in 2006 and 2010. She also earned the Bavarian Sports Prize in 2010. Glagow-Beck also won eight German national titles. She married Austrian non-Olympian biathlete Günther Beck after the Torino Games, moved to Austria and raised two sons and a daughter.
