Jan Friesinger was born into a speed skating family. His parents Georg and Janina (Korowicka) were both active in the 1970s, and his younger siblings Anni and Agnes also competed at international level. After Anni’s marriage to Ids Postma he became Friesinger’s brother-in-law. Jan participated in the 2002 Salt Lake City Winter Olympics and had his best result over 1,000 metres, finishing 34th.
He won five national titles in Germany and later moved to Norway. In Norway he became a sociologist professor with several years’ work experience within a community mental health service. He held a doctoral degree from the University in Agder specialising in health and sport sciences.
Personal Bests: 500 – 36.21 (2007); 1000 – 1:09.60 (2008); 1500 – 1:47.13 (2008); 5000 – 6:43.67 (2004); 10000 – 14:11.72 (2004).
