Biography

Austrian snowboarder Alexander, brother of ski legend Hermann Maier, participated in the 2002 Salt Lake City and the 2006 Torino Winter Olympics. He finished tenth in the parallel giant slalom in 2002 and was disqualified in 2006 in the qualification round. In 2001, he won a bronze medal at the World Championships in the boarder cross event. The same year he won his only National title in parallel giant slalom. In total, Maier won three World Cup races.

After ending his active career, Maier trained in retail merchant and took over the management of the Hermann Maier ski school in his hometown of Flachau.
