Austrian snowboarded Maria Kirchgasser competed at the 2002 Salt Lake City Winter Olympics. She lost her quarter-final in the parallel giant slalom to Poland’s Jagna Marczułajtis and was eliminated.
In 1993, she won a silver medal in the parallel giant slalom event and in 1997 a bronze medal in the boarder cross at the World Championships. She also won the European Championships in 1994 in the parallel giant slalom. In 1999 and 2003, she won the Austrian National titles. In total, Kirchgasser won three World Cup races.
