Wolfgang Linger and his brother Andreas became four-time Olympians from Salt Lake City 2002 until Sochi 2014. The brothers won gold medals in 2006 and 2010 in the men’s doubles and added a silver medal in 2014. In 2002, they finished eighth. With the team relay, the siblings came seventh in 2014.
The Linger brothers won three gold medals at World Championships (2003, 2011-12), and two bronze medals (2003 with the team and 2013 with the doubles). They also won the overall World Cup in 2012. At European Championships they added one more gold (2010) and three silver and three bronze medals. They won 15 World Cup races in total.
The brothers were flagbearers for Austria at the at the opening ceremony at the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics. In 2003 both were awarded the Decoration of Honour for Services to the Republic of Austria. They retired directly after the 2014 Games. Both became freelance technology managers within the Austrian Luge Federation and IOC Ambassadors for Fair Play. The brothers also worked with Austrian TV channel ORF.
