Aldo Albera was among the pioneers of the kayak in Italy, and was very engaged in the post-war era, when the canoe was considered the poor relative of rowing. As a canoeist he competed in the early 1950s and at the Helsinki Olympics in the K1 10,000, where he obtained the best Italian result with 15th. After finishing his active career, he received a coaching degree and moved to Sabaudia, where he was appointed technician of the Central Rowing School of the Marina Militare (Navy).
From 1965 to 1969 he was the trainer of the Italian National team and led the K2 500 of Olympians Cesare Beltrami and Cesare Zilioli, who were 6th at the European Championships in 1967 in Duisburg and 1969 in Moscow.
