Biography

Giorgio Sbruzzi and Danio Merli became the first Italians to win a non-single kayak event at the World Canoeing Championships in 1975, when they won the K-2 10,000 metres silver medal at Belgrade. A member of the Canottieri Baldesio club, Sbruzzi started his career in single-seater kayaks, before moving to K-2 with Merli. The pair reached the 1,000 metres semi-final at the Montreal Olympics in 1976. Sbruzzi competed in three other World Championships, but never finished better than 12th place, in the 10,000 metres.
