Klaus Kathan, son of hockey coach Peter Kathan, was a German ice hockey forward who participated in the 2002 Salt Lake City and the 2006 Torino Winter Olympics. The team lost in 2002 to the United States 5-0 after winning the group stage ahead of Latvia, Austria, and Slovakia. In 2006, the team was eliminated in the group stage and disappointed with a tenth place. In total, Kathan won 155 international caps and scored 30 goals. He participated in 11 World Championships.
At club level, Kathan played with EC Bad Tölz (1994-97), Berlin Capitals (1996-98), Starbulls Rosenheim (1998-2000), Kassel Huskies (2000-02), Adler Mannheim (2002-04), Düsseldorfer EG Metro Stars (2004-08), Hannover Scorpions (2008-11), EHC Red Bull München (2011-13), and finally EC Bad Tölz, and again (2013-18). He helped Hannover win the German national title in 2010.
