Christian Künast was a German ice hockey goalie who participated in the 2002 Salt Lake City Winter Olympics. The team lost to the United States 5-0 after winning the group stage ahead of Latvia, Austria, and Slovakia. In total, he won 44 international caps and participated in two World Championships. At club level, Künast played with EV Landshut (until 1996 and 1998-99), Star Bulls Rosenheim (1996), Kaufbeurer Adler (1996-97), Adler Mannheim (1997-98), EHC München Barons (1999-2002), Hamburg Freezers (2002-04), and Hannover Scorpions (2004-07).
Künast turned to coaching after his active career and worked with Hannover, EHC Straubing, and the German women’s national team. In 2020 he took over as sports director at the German Ice Hockey Federation. He became brother-in-law of his teammate Marco Sturm.
