In 1973 sailors Heinz Maurer and Werni Meier won the 1973 Star Championship of Switzerland using the same boat that David Forbes (AUS) sailed in to win gold a year earlier at the München Olympics. Maurer was also a regular at the Star World Championships, competing in the event for more than 20 years from the 1970s to the 1990s. In 1980 he competed at the Moskva Olympics with compatriots Jean-Claude Vuithier, Sr. and Jean-Philippe L’Huillier, but finished last out of the 13 teams that took part.
