German long-distance runner Ulrike Maisch participated at the 2004 Athens Olympics in the marathon but could not finish the race due to foot pain. Her greatest moment came in 2006 winning the European Marathon Championships, after which Maisch was then named German Athlete of the Year. In 2002, she won the Bonn Marathon, placed eighth at the European Championships, and finished second at the Cologne (Köln) Marathon. In 2009, she placed third at the Hamburg Marathon.
Maisch emigrated to Guernsey with her family and worked as an assistant teacher of German at a private school. She raised two sons.
