Fritz Frey of Zürich first competed at the Swiss National Championships in canoe racing held at Biel in 1947, when he competed in the men’s singles event, finishing in third place. In the following year, he competed in the K2 1,000m event alongside Swiss champion and 1936 Olympian Werner Zimmermann, finishing second in the event behind the duo of Hans Straub and Emil Bottlang. The pair was later selected to compete at the Olympic Games in London where they contested the K2 10,000 m race, finishing 11th in a field of 15 countries.
