Biography

Frank Ostholt was a German eventer participating at the 2004 Athens and 2008 Beijing Olympics, which were held in Hong Kong. In 2008, he won the team gold medal and placed 25th individually. In 2004, Ostholt’s teammate Bettina Overesch-Böker-Hoy became a tragic figure when, shortly after the start, she mistakenly completed an extra circuit before beginning the actual competition. Although she initially won both the individual and team events, she was subsequently awarded penalty points and relegated following several protests, as she had already crossed the starting line before that extra circuit. As a result, the team finished fourth.

Ostholt won team gold at the 2006 World Championships and team bronze the previous year at the Europeans and then won individual bronze in 2011. He won the German national title in 2003, 2005 and 2008.

Ostholt held a degree in agricultural engineering, became a master in equestrian management, and served as the head of the German Olympic Committee Federal Training Centre for Equestrian Sports in Warendorf. In 2005, he was awarded the Silver Bay Leaf, Germany’s highest sports award. Ostholt married his Swedish colleague Sara Algotsson Ostholt and became brother-in-law of her sister Linda Algotsson.
