Biography

Marco Kutscher was a German showjumper participating at the 2004 Athens and 2008 Beijing Olympics, which were held in Hong Kong. In 2004. He won two bronze medals, both individually and with the team. Germany had initially won the gold medal with a score of 9.00 points. However, Ludger Beerbaum was subsequently disqualified because his horse, Goldfever 3, tested positive for a banned substance. As a result, Christian Ahlmann’s score - previously the “dropped” (discarded) score - was factored in, causing the team to fall back to the bronze medal position. The IOC reached this retroactive decision in September 2005.

In 2010, Kutscher was retroactively disqualified from the 2008 Games due to the use of the medication Lactanase on his horse, Cornet Obolensky. As a result, the entire team was disqualified. Kutscher’s greatest moment came in 2005 when he won both the individual European Championships and the team competition. In 2011, he added another team gold medal. He won his only German national title in 2003 and in 2005 Kutscher was awarded the Silver Bay Leaf, Germany’s highest sports award.

In April 2011, Kutscher successfully completed his examination to become a certified master in equestrian management. Until summer of 2014, he lived and trained in Riesenbeck, where he worked at the stable of Ludger Beerbaum. Since then, he has operated a competition stable in Bad Essen.
