Claudia Marx was a 400 metres runner. At the 2004 Athens Olympics she was also member of the German 4x400 metres relay team eliminated in the heats. However, she won a relay gold medal at the 2002 European Championships, silver medals at the 2001 Worlds and 2002 European Indoors, and a bronze medal at the 2001 World Indoors. Marx later turned to 400 metres hurdles.
After her competitive career Marx worked as a coach at the Chemnitz/Dresden Olympic training centre and as a national youth coach. In 2019, she was named national 400 metres coach.
