Biography

Rouxi Ntoumitreskou was born in Galați, Romania where she started her volleyball career with Dacia Pitești in 1994. The same year Ntoumitreskou also represented the Romanian women’s national team at the FIVB Volleyball Women’s World Championship in Brazil. In 1997 she moved to Greece where she later became a Greek citizen. She began her domestic career in Greece with FO Vrilissia in 1997, winning the Greek Championship in the 1998–99 season, along with three Greek Cups (1999, 2000, 2003). From 2003 to 2010 Ntoumitreskou played for Panathinaikos, winning six Greek Championships (2005–10) and five Greek Cups (2005–06, 2008–10). During this time she also played for the Greek national team, competing at the 2004 Athina Olympics and winning silver at the 2005 Mediterranean Games. Ntoumitreskou was briefly married to the Greek taekwondo practitioner Alexandros Nikolaidis before the couple divorced, with Nikolaidis dying from cancer in 2022, aged 42. Two years earlier Ntoumitreskou had returned to Romania where she started to coach at a volleyball academy in Sibiu. Tragically she died from a heart attack in her home in March 2024. She was 46.
