Biography

Janet Wanja represented the Kenya Pipeline volleyball team from 2005 until her retirement in 2019. In 2004 Wanja was part of the Kenyan national team that competed at the Athina Olympics but finished last in their pool after losing all five of their matches. Three years later she led the national team to victory at the 2017 Women’s African Volleyball Championship in Nairobi where she was also named as the tournament’s best setter. Following her playing career she became a coach, taking up a job as the fitness trainer of the Malkia Strikers in early 2024. Sadly, however, Wanja was diagnosed with gallbladder cancer with her dying from the disease in December 2024. She was 40-years-old.
