Biography

Carmela Allucci was the captain of the Italian water polo team in Athina. They won five consecutive matches after losing 6-5 in the first match against the defending champion, Australia. In the final, they beat Greece 10-9 after extra time, in front of 12,000 fans cheering for the home team. Allucci scored one goal in the tournament, a lob against Australia. She joined the national team when she was 15 years old. She was capped no less than 349 times, winning 2 golds (1998 and 2001), one silver and one bronze in the World Championships, 4 golds (1995, 1997, 1999 and 2003), one silver and one bronze in the European Championships. She also won seven consecutive Italian titles with Volturno between 1985 and 1991.
