In 1995, Silvia Bosurgi joined Orizzonte Catania, the dominant side in Italian women’s water polo. With the team, she won the Italian title 12 times (only missing 2007), and the European Cup six times. Bosurgi was also successful with the Italian national team. In 1999, she won the European title in front of a home crowd in Prato, and the World title in 2001 in Fukuoka. At the 2004 Olympics, she scored a goal in the final against Greece, which Italy defeated only in overtime, to complete her set of gold medals. Bosurgi returned to the Olympics in 2008, but the Italians only placed a disappointing sixth.
