As the goalkeeper of the Italian water polo team, Francesca Conti played 327 international matches, crowning her career with the Olympic gold in Athens. But Conti had also played at four World Championships, winning in 1998 and 2001. She was also a five-time European Championships finalist, winning in 1995, 1997, 1999 and 2003. In domestic play, Conti played for the highly successful Orrizonte Catania that won 14 consecutive Italian titles between 1992 and 2005.
