Simon Hallenbarter initially began his career as a cross-country skier before switching to biathlon in 2002. Hallenbarter competed at the 2006 Torino Olympics, the 2010 Vancouver Olympics and the 2014 Sochi Olympics. His best individual result came in Vancouver when he finished in 16th place in the 10 kilometres sprint. Hallenbarter competed in the Biathlon World Cup for 10 years, entering the top 10 on six occasions. Hallenbarter retired from the sport in 2014 and went on to run the family sporting goods store. Hallenbarter took his own life while on holiday in Austria. He was 43.
