Biography
Midfielder and forward Sandra Smisek was on the German female football squads at the 1996, 2000, and 2004 Summer Olympics, but did not play. However, she played at Beijing in 2008 and was on the bronze medal winning team. She was a World Cup winner in 2003 and 2007, and European Champion in 1997, 2001, and 2005. In 2006, she won the Algarve Cup. Smisek won 133 international caps and scored 34 goals. She was awarded the Silver Bay Leaf, Germany’s highest sports award.
Domestically, Smisek played with FSV Frankfurt (1992-98 and 2001-05), FCR Duisburg 55 (1998-2001), and 1. FFC Frankfurt (2005-13). In 1995, 1998, 2000 and 2007-08 she helped Frankfurt win the German national title, and the German Cup in 1995-96, 2007-08, and 2011. In 2006 and 2008 she was also on the Frankfurt Champions League winning team. In 1996, Smisek was top scorer in the German Bundesliga.
Smisek later trained as an office clerk at Kickers Offenbach but then moved to the German police to become a police commissioner.
