Arturo Kenny was of Irish descent and was part of the Irish and British community that helped popularize polo in Argentina in the 1920s. He won the Argentine Open with Hurlingham in 1920, 1921, 1925, 1927, and 1929. In between his first and last triumph he won an Olympic gold medal in 1924 when he played at number one in all four of Argentina’s games as they lifted the title and became Argentina’s first ever Olympic gold medalists in any sport. He scored six goals in the 15-2 win over Spain in their opening match.
Kenny played in the first two Cup of the Americas matches against the United States in 1928 and 1932 but was on the losing side each time. In his memory, the Copa Arturo Kenny is contested each year at the Venado Tuerto Club. His other titles included winning the P. A. of the River Plate Handicap Championship, the Hurlingham Open Championship, the Anchorena Cup, and the Ravenscroft Cup.
