Biography

Lúcia de Faria was a Brazilian horsewoman who competed at the 1968 Mexico City Olympics in show jumping and was the first woman to represent Brazil in Olympic jumping. After her Olympic appearance de Faria moved to Europe, where she competed thereafter on the continent, helping Brazil win a Nations Cup event in late 1968.

de Faria’s passion for horses began as a child on the farm of her uncle in Petrópolis. After her riding career ended, she became a designer of equestrian courses. de Faria married António Simões, who competed in show jumping at the 1972 München Olympics.
