Alessandro Argenton was an eventing rider who competed at five Olympic Games from 1960 to 1976, winning a silver medal in the individual in 1972 and leading Italy to the team gold medal in 1964. He learned to ride from his father, Mario, an artillery officer in World War II. His München silver medal was aboard Woodland, a horse that Countess Maria Sole Teodorani had made available for the national team.
Argenton and his brother, Ruggero, later created an equestrian center, the CEV, which was considered one of the major such training centers in Europe when it was opened, built by the architect Paolo Cavatorta, also an eventing rider. In 2015 Allessandro Argenton was awarded the Collare d’Oro for sporting merit. In honor of his sporting achievements, Argenton was also awarded a Gold Medal by the Italian Olympic Committee.
