In 1920, Ettore Caffaratti and his horse Caniche won a silver in team eventing and bronze medal in the individual event. He also won a bronze medal in team jumping aboard Tradittore. When he competed in Antwerpen, Caffaratti was already a World War I veteran. As a major he was in command of a company of alpine skiers, which he formed and trained. During World War II, as a brigadier general, he was in charge of the Colonial Division “Galla e Sidamo”, which was captured by the British in Libya. One of the few Italians who were bestowed the “honors of arms”, he was decorated with the Silver Medal of Military Valour.
