Ranieri, Count di Campello competed in eventing at the 1936 Berlin Olympics. He was the son of Count Pompeo di Campello, a senator in the Kingdom of Italy, and the Princess Guglielmina Boncompagni Ludovisi, a court lady of the Queen Elena di Savoia. Ranieri began a promising career in horse riding and was a contender at the Berlin Olympics, but he fell in the cross-country phase.
During World War II Count di Campello served many roles. He was in the military office at the Italian embassy in Bucureşti and in 1941 served in Spain for military operations against Gibraltar. In the years 1942-43 he was in Russia with the Armata Italiana in Russia (ARMIR) as an officer of the Savoia Cavalleria, In Russia he fought in an operation near the city of Nikitowka, was severely wounded, and was awarded the Silver Medal of Military Valor.
After the war di Campello left the Army and was a member and later President of the Italian Equestrian Federation. In the 1950s he was vice-president of the Fédération Equestrian Internationale (FEI) and a member of the council of CONI (Italian Olympic committee). From 1952 until his death Count di Campello served as mayor of Campello sul Clitunno.
