Chris Reed was born in Michigan to a Japanese mother and American father, and started skating alongside his two sisters, Cathy and Allison. They later grew up in Warren Township, New Jersey. Chris and Cathy Reed started ice dancing, winning the 2006 US Novice Championships. After that they switched allegiance to Japan and competed for the rest of their career under their mother’s nationality. Together they won seven Japanese national titles in ice dancing (2008-11, 2013-15), and were silver medalists at the 2011 Asian Winter Games. They were also second at the NRW Trophy and Toruń Cup in 2013.
Cathy Reed retired from competition after the 2014/15 season and Chris carried on with Kana Muramoto as his new partner. They won Japanese titles in 2016-18 and took home a silver medal at the 2017 Asian Winter Games. Reed and Muramoto never won a major international but between 2016-18 they had seven podium finishes at events such as the Four Continents, Nebelhorn, US Classic, NRW Trophy, and Toruń Cup.
Reed and Muramoto stopped competing after the 2017/18 season. Chris Reed did ice shows for a time but sadly died of a sudden cardiac arrest in March 2020 at 30-years-old.
