After his sporting career was cut short early due to a football injury Togay Bayatlı became a sports journalist. Bayatlı first began writing in the sporting pages of the Turkish press in the late 1950s before moving up the ranks of sports administration in the country. He served as the Secretary General of the National Olympic Committee of Turkey from 1984 to 2003, with him then serving as the organisation’s President from 2003 until 2011. Bayatlı also served on the board of various organisations including the IOC, FIFA, and the International Volleyball Federation. He was awarded with the Olympic Order in Silver in 1991.
