Luo Zhijun was a Chinese politician and a former mayor of Nanjing. Luo was born in the city of Lingyuan in the north-east of China in 1951. In 1968 he joined the People’s Liberation Army Navy, serving in the North Sea Fleet until 1978. During this time he also became a member of the Chinese Communist Party. In 1995 Luo was appointed as the vice-mayor of Nanjing before taking on the full mayoral role in 2002. He held several positions in Jiangsu Province including the deputy party chief, vice-governor, and the acting governor. In 2014 Luo was the Honorary President of the Nanjing Youth Olympic Organising Committee.
