Carlo, Marchese Compans de Brichanteau

Marquis Carlo Compans was an Italian politician, career soldier, and sports manager. He was a member of the Chamber of Deputies of the Kingdom of Italy from 1876-1919. Compans served as Under-Secretary for the Ministry of Post and Telegraphy from 1889-91, and was later Under-Secretary for the Ministry of Agriculture, Industry and Commerce from 1896-97. In 1910 he presided over a committee named Società Anonima Esercizio Stadium that financed the building of the first major stadium in Torino, which was the largest Italian sporting facility to that time.

In 1914 Marquis Compans became the first president of the Italian National Olympic Committee (CONI). Previously he led the temporary committees for the 1908 and 1912 Olympics in London and Stockholm.
