Jean Beya Wa Kabenga trained as a criminologist before becoming a noted figure in sports administration in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. In March 2008 Kabenga was elected as the President of the National Olympic Committee of Congo after previously serving as the organisation’s deputy. He was also heavily involved in the sport of archery, serving as the President of the Archery Federation of the Congo (2017–23) and as a board member of World Archery Africa (2018–22).
