From 1955 to 1965 Abdoulaye Seye Moreau played basketball for several clubs in the Senegalese First Division before becoming a referee and a noted sports administrator. Moreau had a long career with the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) as an official and in high-profile governance roles. As a referee he officiated at the 1975 FIBA Women’s World Championship tournament in Colombia, with him later becoming the FIBA Africa President. In 1998 he was appointed as the President of FIBA, serving in the role until 2002, followed by a four-year spell as the organisation’s Vice-President. At the same time Moreau also served as the President of the National Olympic Committee of Senegal from 2002 to 2006.
