Abdelhamid Slama worked as a professor in Tunis before becoming the head of department at the Ministry of National Education. From 2004 to 2009 Slama served as the President of the National Olympic Committee of Tunisia. In 2010 he was appointed as Tunisia’s Minister of Youth, Sports, and Physical Education. Whilst in the post he was suspected of corruption, but was later acquitted by the Court of Appeal. As well as being honoured with the Grand Officer of the National Order of Merit he was also bestowed with the National Medals of Merit from Italy and Malta.
